Ashley Dean is a Senior Lecturer in Animation, Design and Broadcast Media at Leeds Beckett University, UK. His practice since graduating in 2004 has been varied to say the least. Projectionist and Cornet player for the Post-Rock Group iLiKETRAiNS, Ashley toured the world for 5 years, experimenting with a wide variety of time-based media as he went. Collaboration has always been at the heart of Ashley's work and he has balanced his research between experimental film making, animation and more formal classroom teaching over the past 10 years. Collaboration is a theme he will explore in his PHD, starting in early 2019.

For almost 2000 years, Paper has been a key component in the advancement of societies across the globe. But where as the act of writing is becoming an increasingly digital process, the physical form of Paper (and it's more robust cousin Cardboard), is being used in some surprising new ways.

In this presentation I will discuss my own relationship with Cardboard, highlight some of the innovative ways it is being used today and look ahead to some future applications.
