Call for Participation in a Conference's Special Track and Journal's Special Issue on
Relating Research, Practice and/or Knowledge Integration: RPKI 2018
WMSCI/IMSCI 2018 on July 8-11, 2018, in Orlando, Florida, USA, and
The Journal of Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics
Knowledge integration is a necessary condition for relating research to practice; which, in turn, frequently generates 1) abductive thinking that provides input to the inductive and deductive processes used in research and 2) inter-disciplinary communication that is required for knowledge integration. See figure below for visual summarization of the explicit/implicit relationships.
Submissions can be made regarding 1) any of the relationship(s) shown above and/or 2) any of the topics suggested at the bottom of this page, in the context of the main methodologies used to relate Research, Practice, and/or Knowledge Integration.
Methodologies Frequently Used to Relate Research, Practice and/or Knowledge Integration; which topics are suggested below:
- Case Studies and Methodologies
- Interdisciplinary Research, Education, and Communication
- International Symposium on Integrating Research, Education, and Problem Solving
- Action Research and Action Learning
- Knowledge Generation, Communication and Management
Publications
All accepted and presented articles will be included in the WMSCI/IMSCI 2018 proceedings which have been indexed by Scopus since 2005. IIIS will continue to send the proceedings of all its conferences for their respective indexation.
A special issue of the Journal of Systemics, Cybernetics, and Informatics (JSCI) will be published on Relating Research, Practice and/or Knowledge Integration. JSCI is indexed by EBSCO, Cabell, DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), Academic Journals Database, and Google Scholar and listed in Cabell Directory of Publishing Opportunities and in Ulrich’s Periodical Directory.
About the Journal of Systemics, Cybernetics, and Informatics (JSCI)
JSCI was asked by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) to re-apply because DOAJ identified more rigorous criteria to list journals in its directory and to index them. After re-applying the Journal was accepted again with the following new benefits (we are making a copy and paste from the email we received form them):
Benefits of supplying DOAJ with metadata:
- Our statistics show more than 900 000 page views and 300 000 unique visitors a month to DOAJ from all over the world.
- Many aggregators, databases, libraries, publishers and search portals collect our free metadata and include it in their products. Examples are Scopus, Serial Solutions and EBSCO.
- DOAJ is OAI compliant and once an article is in DOAJ, it is automatically harvestable.
- DOAJ is OpenURL compliant and once an article is in DOAJ, it is automatically linkable.
- Over 95% of the DOAJ Publisher community said that DOAJ is important for increasing their journal's visibility
- DOAJ is often cited as a source of quality, open access journals in research and scholarly publishing circles.
We are supplying our Journal’s meta-data to DOAJ; which is frequently referenced as a white list for electronic open access journals.

Relationships and topics of the most frequent methodologies used in Relating Research, Practice and/or Knowledge Integration
Relationships
The most used methodologies for relating research and practice as well as in knowledge integration are, in turn, related among themselves, as it is visually simplified in the diagram below. Consequently, potential cybernetic loops might be generated among them as well as possible synergies and emergent properties, mainly via positive feedback. Bringing together scholars, researchers, professionals, and practitioners in these areas might synergistically relate them. This is one of the main purposes of the Organizing Committee.
Virtual Participation
Submissions for Face-to-Face or for Virtual Participation are both accepted. Both kinds of submissions will have the same reviewing process and the accepted papers will be included in the same proceedings, and will have the same selection process for the best papers to be published in the Journal with no additional charge, and the same reviewing by the journal´s reviewers for the respective publication in the special issue.
Virtual Sessions
Face-to-face sessions of all jointly organized events will have associated virtual pre- and post-conference sessions where registered participants can comment each paper on a forum associated to it. Registered participants at any event will have a password to access any virtual session of any collocated event. Consequently, sessions’ papers can be read before the conference, and authors presenting at the same session can interact during one week before and after the conference.
